Nirmala de Zoysa has won Outstanding Quality Professional of the Year Award

Nirmala De Zoysa is a Senior Deputy Director in Technical
service of the Higher Management
Category of Sri Lanka Standard Institution (SLSI) which is a National member
body of the International Standard Organization (ISO).
Within 20 years of professional service,
she has worked for the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) (under the Ministry of Agriculture) and the Brown
and Company PLC - Agriculture Directorate, which is a leading Private Organization in
Sri Lanka before join to the government sector.
Mrs. Zoysa hold MSc in Bio-Technology
and BSc special degree in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya ,Sri Lanka. She is qualified and registered
Lead auditor for ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 22000 Food Safety
Management System, ISO 21000 – Education Organization Management System,
Sustainable Fuel Wood Management System, UTZ and for Organic Agriculture Management System too.
She is Qualified for Six Sigma Lean Management
Green Belt Levels from Six Sigma Institute - India and also a
Technical Assessor for National Quality Awards Organize by the Sri Lanka Standards
Institution against the criteria used
similar to the Malcolm Baldrige award in USA.
As well as she is a Technical Assessor
for National Quality Convention and International Quality Convection and serve
to the NQC and IQC judge panel too.
She has extended her professional
service for the development of food and Agriculture sector in numerous
ways by blending her
educational and technical knowledge with the experience she gained.
Mrs. Zoysa represent as a committee
member ISO Technical Committees of fruits and
vegetables, Grains and Pulses, Agrochemicals, Soil quality, sustainable fuel
wood with technical expertise and experience
for the International standard formulation Process.
While she has extended her knowledge
and technical experience for quality
improvement of food and Agriculture sector and her Service offered as QMS auditor for improvement of Quality management
system in different industries.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) was new
concept to Sri Lankan Agriculture sector and she hold the project for Good
Agriculture Practices, standard formulation
and implementation for the first time at SLSI.
Mrs. Zoysa obtained foreign training on Global
G A P and she shared the knowledge collaboratively with the Department of
Agriculture-Sri Lanka for introduction and implementation of GAP for Sri Lankan
Agriculture sector for safe food production through conducting awareness session for farmers,
field officers, Extension officers, Entrepreneurs and for relevant government
institutions.
In concern of Organic Agriculture Production and certification Mrs. Zoysa contributed her knowledge as a lecturer and auditor for certification compliance on Organic Agriculture.
Mrs. Zoysa has conducted several awareness sessions and training
session for quality improvement, such as Good Handling Practice(GHP) on Agrichemicals,
Good Agriculture Practices(GAP) standardization of production of compost,
Quality Improvements of Agri based products, Good Manufacturing Practices, Certification
for qualify improvement of dairy industries, Organic agriculture, certification
for sustainable production of fuelwood etc.
In addition to those, she has conducted many training programme for SME sector
development, on quality maintain, quality control and quality
improvements specially for Ago
based industries.
She is also a resource person for
Six-Sigma Lean Management, Total productivity Management (TPM), Total Quality Management (TQM), Agriculture insurance, post-harvest loss management etc.
Mrs. Zoysa hold the professional membership
of Sri Lanka Association for Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP) and Sri Lanka
Agripreneurs’s forum.
She has extended her service to international
level too. She has done training of Trainers (TOT) programmer on Agriculture Insurance for Department of Agriculture
in Indonesia in with the invitation
of Indonesia Government and United Nation Development Programme in 2010.
She has attended as technical auditor for product
compliance audit for product certification in India and China too.
In
2024 she participated for the food and Fermentation Industry exhibition as a
Technical Expert for fruits and Vegetables innovation organized by the National Standardization Center
of Food& Fermentation Industry and China National Research Institute of
Food & Fermentation Industries in China and received
Special honors for her service.
Mrs. Zoysa was Awarded for a service appreciation
by the Information Communication Technological Agencies (ICTA) - Sri Lanka for
the development of e- based system for efficient paddy Insurance and claim settlement,
when she was working in Agricultural Insurance Board in 2011.
Again she was awarded Gold Medal
for “Best Academic Performance” for Organic Agriculture and Plantation Management” from
the National Institute of Plantation Management (NIPM) Sri Lanka
in 2022.
Mrs. Zoysa has published few articles such as “ Standards for Agriculture Sector,
Good Agricultural Practices (G A P) for safer production of fruits and vegetables in Sri Lankan and contribution of
SLSI for safe Aquaculture a fisheries
production in Sri Lankan.
Mrs. Zoysa has awarded Sports
Achievement in University level and she is a competent person for technical writing.
Mrs. Zoysa extends her heart full

commitment to the food agriculture sector
concerning quality improvement.
She has been nominated and awarded this prestigious award is a
tremendous honor and bring some validation, encouragement and positive impact
for her continuous contribution for her professional carrier. This is not a
just award, its reflect countless honor and emotional appreciation for the
commitment.
On personal level receiving the International QueenBook award is deep appreciation and
humble experience. It motivates her to set and plan higher goals to future work
too.
Her
Journey has been supported by many
individuals, superiors, institutions specially SLSI , AAIB and Government organizations including family members.
Main challenge is to incorporate concept of quality for food and agriculture sector
towards safer food production. Her vision is to delivering values to the
industry development and aware stakeholders, who are in whole food chain on maintaining of quality.
