Biography
Chandravathany
Devadason is a merit Professor in Zoology and researcher attached Eastern University,
Sri Lanka. She has completed, PhD in Food Science and Technology ( Postharvest
Technology) in Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Tokyo University of Marine
Science and Technology, M.Phil in Fish Microbiology and Immunology(1998) in
University of Aberdeen, UK, M.Sc in Aquatic Pathobiology(1993) in Stirling University, UK and B.Sc in Zoology Hons (1986) in Sri Lanka.
She
is in academic service for 35 years until 2024 and has been in many high
executive positions in Eastern University, Sri Lanka, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Acting
Vice Chancellor of Eastern University and currently she is serving as Rector of Trincomalee Campus, Eastern
University, Sri Lanka. Furthermore she has been engaged the student related
activities, warden, student counsellor, coordinator for postgraduate degree,
acting director for centre, coordinator,
sports chairman, member of national scientific associations and exco member of NARA and team leader for national and international
projects.
She
has published 30 full papers in SCI/Peer reviewed journals and proceedings, 75 international
and national abstracts presentation, five poster presentations and five books
in English and Tamil. She has conducted twenty workshops for farmers,
ecologists, food science and fisher people in respect of technology transfer,
sustainable management and leadership. She has been as resource person,
consultant and expert for many national and international projects.
She
is delivering lectures for
undergraduates and Post graduates
subjects such as Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Fish Biology,
Fisheries & Aquaculture, Fish & Shell fish diseases, Aquatic
Pathobiology, Nutritional Biochemistry, Fish Microbiology & Immunology,
Fisheries Management,
She
has received many national and International awards for presentation, attending
conference, symposium and training. She
has been in 20 countries and made academic and research interaction among scholars.
She has scientific membership of many scientific organizations including
OWSD.

She
is a daughter of Late Mr Pon Balasundaram and Mrs. Matharsai and a member of eight siblings and the life
of her was a very challenging in her
personal and working life. With the wisdom
of lord of almighty, she is one of a achievable person in the world. She was born in a village in Jaffna district
namely Thunnalai North Karaveddy as
eldest daughter of her parents and She went a Methodist Mission Primary school
( 1) and then studied in Vada Hindu Ladies College ( 2 secondary school) until Year 12. From there she entered as
undergraduate student in biological science stream and specialized in
zoology honours degree. From
undergraduate onwards , she had
dream to specialize in fish and fisheries
related study in post graduate research and performed first research in
freshwater biology and since then she started to engage in research
and publication and presentation of
research in different national international research form.
She
had completed in double masters in University of Stirling and Aberdeen respectively
and after two masters degree she had completed
Doctor of Philosophy by doing research in Wayamba University and Tokyo
University of Marine Science Technology, Japan.
She
had done her research in five
Universities , among them , three were
international universities. She spent her working life started from University
of Jaffna as temporary lecturer and then she became lecturer in
Eastern University, Sri Lanka and spent
35 years of academic life there and
Trincomalee Campus. During her academic period , she served higher executive
position , Head, Dean, Rector, Acting Vice chancellor. During her working life
she contributed lot for the development of fisheries and aquaculture nationally and internationally. She had
research interaction with more than 20 international universities. She has done
academic life satisfactorily
