Vigneswaran Mathini is an accomplished legal professional, humanitarian leader, and emerging global change-maker whose work exemplifies integrity, service, and transformative leadership-qualities recognised by the Queen's Book Award powered by Queen Times. With over ten years of distinguished experience in law, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable communities. Serving as a State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka, Mathini has successfully concluded several criminal cases and secured over 300 High Court convictions, including complex prosecutions involving murder, terrorism, drug-related offences, and sexual violence. Her role in several landmark cases reflects not only her legal expertise but also her courage, resilience, and dedication to upholding the rule of law in demanding and high-pressure environments.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mathini's leadership is deeply rooted in humanitarian service. During the devastating Ditwah Cyclone, she led a grassroots relief initiative with the support of her family and friends, providing essential relief parcels to over 500 affected families. She coordinated fundraising, logistics, and distribution, ensuring aid reached vulnerable and underserved communities. This initiative stands as a powerful testament to her ability to respond decisively in times of crisis, transforming compassion into meaningful action while demonstrating exceptional leadership, coordination, and empathy. Her efforts not only addressed immediate needs but also strengthened community resilience and unity during a period of hardship.

Mathini's leadership philosophy is grounded in justice, empathy, and social responsibility. She believes that true leadership lies in serving others and creating opportunities for those in need. This belief is reflected in her continued commitment to community development, including her role as the founder and administrator of the ''I'm Red'' blood donation volunteer network, which has supported life-saving initiatives since 2015. In addition, she has taken a proactive role in supporting education by personally assisting school and university students. Working collaboratively with friends through social media platforms such as Facebook, she helps mobilise resources, provide guidance, and support students facing financial challenges. This initiative highlights her innovative approach to leadership and her dedication to empowering young people to achieve their educational goals with confidence.

Her commitment to youth development is further demonstrated through her mentorship and advocacy work. She has facilitated programs on leadership, anti-drug awareness, and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, contributing to long-term social change. She has also been frequently invited to serve as a judge at inter-school, inter-university, and Sri Lanka Law College debate and moot court competitions, where she mentors and evaluates students in advocacy, critical thinking, and public speaking. Through these roles, she continues to inspire and shape the next generation of leaders.

Academically, Mathini has consistently demonstrated excellence and intellectual rigour. She has successfully completed her Master of Laws (LL.M) in Law and Globalisation at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, Masters of Law at the University of Colombo,

and Masters in Criminal Justice Administration at the Open University of Sri Lanka. Her academic background also includes postgraduate qualifications in criminal justice administration, information technology law, administrative law, and gender justice, as well as a Bachelor of Laws with Second Class Upper Division honors from the University of Colombo. Her academic achievements are further highlighted by her national-level success, ranking first in the Tamil medium and sixth overall in Sri Lanka at the Advanced Level examinations. She has been awarded multiple scholarships in recognition of her outstanding performance and dedication.

Mathini has also contributed significantly to legal scholarship through published journal articles and research presentations addressing judicial review, international law, and criminal justice. Her academic and research excellence was internationally recognized when she received the High Best Researcher Award 2024 by the UK Tamil Awards—her first international accolade and a milestone that underscores her growing global impact.

In addition to her national contributions, Mathini has actively engaged in international platforms. She participated as a delegate at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) under UN Women UK and attended professional development programs organized by USAID, JICA, and the United States Department of Justice. These experiences have strengthened her global perspective and reinforced her commitment to advancing justice, human rights, and gender equality on an international scale.

She is also an accomplished public speaker, debater, and communicator, with multiple recognitions in debating, announcing, and literary competitions, further enhancing her ability to advocate and inspire.

Mathini’s achievements have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Think Big Scholarship and the R. Senthiraja Memorial Scholarship from the University of Bristol, as well as the Vanithabimana Young Women Leader Award at the provincial level in Sri Lanka. These honors reflect her impact as a role model for aspiring leaders, particularly young women.

Winning the Queen’s Book Award powered by Queen Times would be a deeply meaningful milestone in Mathini’s journey. She views it not only as a personal achievement but as a recognition of the communities she has served and the values she stands for. It would inspire her to further expand her work, amplify her impact, and continue advocating for justice, equality, and empowerment on a global stage. She remains committed to using her voice, knowledge, and leadership to create lasting change and uplift those in need.
