CASE STUDY: PHYSIOTHERAPY MANAGEMENT OF TRANSVERSE MYELITIS
Throughout
my extensive career
as a Senior Physiotherapist with an M.P.T.
in Orthopaedics, I have had the
opportunity to manage numerous complex cases, including two particularly
challenging instances involving
Transverse Myelitis. One case involved a 35-year-old male, while the other was
a female patient, Attar (name
changed) from Jammu and Kashmir. Both patients were diagnosed with this rare neurological condition, which led to
severe impairments such as profound lower limb weakness, significant sensory loss, and substantial
mobility challenges.
Faced with the physical and emotional toll of
their diagnoses, both patients were understandably anxious about their recovery. My approach to their treatment
involved developing and implementing highly
personalized rehabilitation plans tailored to their specific needs. These plans
focused on a combination of
strengthening exercises, sensory re-education, gait training, balance
exercises, and strategies for symptom management and pain reduction.
Through consistent and dedicated
physiotherapy, both patients made remarkable progress. The male patient experienced significant
improvements in muscle strength, regained much of his functional mobility, and achieved better pain
management. Similarly, Attar, who initially struggled with fear and uncertainty, found reassurance through
clear communication and compassionate care, eventually regaining her stability
and quality of life.
These cases not only highlight the critical
role that physiotherapy plays in the recovery process for patients with neurological conditions like
Transverse Myelitis but also reflect my commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care that has a lasting
and meaningful impact on my patients' lives.
CASE STUDY: SPECIALIZED PHYSIOTHERAPHY IN WOMEN’S HEALTH
In addition to my work with neurological
conditions, I have also specialized in women's health, particularly in the management of pelvic floor dysfunction,
prenatal and postnatal care, and chronic pelvic
pain. One notable case involved a woman suffering from severe pelvic floor
dysfunction post- childbirth, which significantly affected her daily
life and mental
well-being.
